En 2010 dejé Buenos Aires con dos maletas y tres hijos adolescentes. Sin contrato de trabajo, sin red, con la hipoteca de mi casa como única apuesta. Cruzamos el Atlántico con todo lo que importaba — y dejé atrás todo lo que me anclaba.
Lo que nadie me dijo es que en el camino me perdería a mí misma. Los hijos crecieron y se fueron, cada uno a un país diferente. El matrimonio se deshizo en silencio. Y un día me encontré sola por primera vez en mi vida — sin saber cómo, a miles de kilómetros de casa.
Cuando creí haber encontrado el equilibrio de nuevo, la vida volvió a mover el suelo. Nuevo país, nuevo idioma, nueva crisis. Literalmente sin techo en los Países Bajos, desalojando sola una casa, preguntándome si esta vez sería demasiado.
No lo fue. Nunca me rendí. Y hoy sé con certeza absoluta lo que se siente estar a 10.000 kilómetros de casa preguntándote quién eres ahora. Por eso acompaño a otras mujeres — no desde un libro, sino desde haberlo vivido.
In 2010 I left Buenos Aires with two suitcases and three teenage children. No work contract, no safety net — just the mortgage on my house as our only bet. We crossed the Atlantic with everything that mattered, leaving behind everything that had ever grounded me.
What nobody told me was that I would lose myself along the way. The children grew up and left, each to a different country. The marriage quietly fell apart. And one day I found myself alone for the first time in my life — not knowing how, thousands of miles from home.
Just when I thought I'd found balance again, life moved the ground once more. New country, new language, new crisis. Literally without a home in the Netherlands, clearing out a house alone, wondering if this time would be too much.
It wasn't. I never gave up. And today I know with absolute certainty what it feels like to be 10,000 kilometres from home asking yourself who you are now. That's why I walk alongside other women — not from a book, but from having lived it.
